Owing to its wide usage, lime finds extensive application in chemical reactions. In poultry and aqua farming, stable bleaching powder is formulated by reacting hydrated lime with chlorine. In addition, hydrated lime when mixed with di-calcium phosphate used as a moisture binding agent.

Industrial Chemical Application

lime is a basic industrial chemical that is used as a component in many other chemical process.

Alkali plants with access to natural soda ash use the lime-soda process to manufacture caustic soda.
calcium carbide ,the oldest source of acetylene is formed by mixing quicklime to coke and heating to a temperature of 2000 degrees c.Calcium cyanide,a nitrogen fertilizer is made by heating calcium carbide in the presence of nitrogen.
lime is used in the purification of citric acid.Hydrated lime is added to a solution of citric acid to remove suspended solids.

Refractories Application

Dead-burned dolomite is produced when dolomite is calcined at very high temperatures. It is used both as a refractory product in granular form to repair linings and for making the bricks used in the refractory linings of casting ladles and cement kilns. In the steel refining process, the use of dolime instead of pure quicklime will extend the life of refractory linings. In fact, adding dolime will create MgO in solution in the slag, which provides an excellent buffering capacity as MgO particles in suspension provide excellent coating protection. Any excess MgO precipitates, protecting refractories and tap holes, reducing the need for gunning and repairs.
